According to CoinMeta, the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has warned that scammers are sending letters pretending to be from IRS to cryptocurrency holders, requesting them to register through a fake “digital asset compliance portal” in order to steal personal information or digital assets. IRS stated that the agency has not sent such letters, nor is there such a portal, and reminded the public not to scan QR codes in unfamiliar letters, emails, or text messages.
