Micron and SanDisk: The Performance of Chip Manufacturers After the AI Boom
2026-07-31 00:09:40
According to CoinMeta, driven by the AI craze, the memory industry has rapidly grown into the fastest-growing segment within the semiconductor sector. TrendForce estimates that in the first quarter of 2026, the price of regular DRAM contracts increased by about 93% to 98%, with another expected increase of 58% to 63% in the second quarter. Micron Technology, Inc (Nasdaq: MU), and SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq: SNDK) have become the main beneficiaries of the memory shortage. Micron signed 16 strategic customer agreements, with remaining performance obligations soaring from approximately $5 billion at the end of May to around $100 billion. SanDisk also signed five multi-year supply agreements, with a total minimum revenue commitment reaching $42 billion. Although both companies have benefited from the favorable conditions in the memory industry, Micron has a broader presence in the DRAM, NAND, and HBM markets, while SanDisk focuses primarily on the NAND flash memory and enterprise storage markets.
