According to CoinMeta, the World Gold Council's "Global Gold Demand Trends Report" for the second quarter of 2026 shows that central banks and other official institutions around the world increased their gold reserves by a net 289 tons in the second quarter, a year-on-year increase of 62%. The gold purchasing activities of central banks in several countries have rebounded, but due to the weakness in the first quarter, the global central bank demand for gold in the first half of the year was slightly lower than the high levels seen in recent years. In addition, the World Gold Council's "2026 Global Central Banks Gold Reserves Survey" indicates that 45% of the central banks surveyed expect to increase their gold reserves within the next year, highlighting the important role of gold as a stable component of official reserves in the medium to long term.
