According to CoinMeta, the German cabinet submitted a draft bill on the 29th that proposes to allow immigration officials to use artificial intelligence (AI) to assist in processing applications for asylum, visas, and residence permits, in order to improve efficiency. Under this bill, the German Foreign Ministry, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, and local immigration authorities will be able to use immigration application data to train, verify, and test artificial intelligence models. The German government stated that artificial intelligence will only be used as an auxiliary tool, and the legal assessment and final decision regarding immigration applications will still be made by immigration officials.
