Tether USAT launched on Celo, becoming the second mainnet
2026-07-30 04:27:10
According to CoinMeta, Tether announced that its stablecoin USAT for the US market has been launched on the Celo network, marking its second mainnet deployment after Ethereum. The launch of USAT signifies Tether's expansion within the digital dollar payment network, with Celo becoming its second supported mainnet. USAT holders can now use native minting and burning functions on Celo, reducing the need to transfer tokens through third-party bridges. Celo has also introduced this feature through an upgrade via CIP-64, allowing approved ERC-20 tokens to be used as gas currency. Tether stated that expanding to Celo is a well-thought-out decision, aimed at operating in an environment where digital dollars are already widely used. Celo has now become Tether's largest distribution network, with a 28% share of weekly active users.
