Prentis is in talks for a new round of funding. Sources say the AI lab, which focuses on computer use models, is aiming to raise $100 million, valuing the company at approximately $1 billion. The company was co-founded by serial entrepreneur Ritankar Das, along with Reid Hoffman and Marc Pincus.
A client contract has been signed.
Prentis claims its product will be tailored to specific business scenarios, helping clients handle insurance claims, customs refund irregularities, and other processes, reducing the need for manual document retrieval. Sources familiar with the matter say the company has signed contracts worth up to $50 million with several clients, including a healthcare management services organization, a manufacturer, and apparel and merchandise makers.
Company documents show that Prentis expects its annualized revenue to reach $75 million by the third quarter of this year. Its financing materials also state that this figure is based on a 20% fee calculation of the savings amount and is an estimated annualized value, not recognized revenue.
Focusing on smaller and cheaper models
Prentis also claims that its Hive-32B model outperforms OpenAI's GPT-5.4 and Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.6 on two computer-use benchmarks: WindowsAgentArena and ScreenSpot-v2. The former tests the model's ability to complete tasks in real-world Windows applications, while the latter tests the model's ability to locate screen controls.
In its funding materials, the company emphasized its advantage in using smaller, lower-cost models. Prentis claims its cost per task is about one-tenth that of cutting-edge APIs, making it suitable for integration into daily office workflows. TechCrunch stated that it has not independently verified these benchmark results.
Competition on the track is heating up
Prentis believes that automating routine office tasks will soon surpass programming to become one of the biggest applications of AI. However, this field is already highly competitive. Anthropic, OpenAI, and Thinking Machines, founded by Mira Murati, are all advancing AI agents for computer use.
According to Prentis' website, the company has hired more than 25 employees, including researchers who have worked at OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Meta, Tencent, and Alibaba.
